What Happens When Things Don’t Go To Plan?

(Nasal) nose reconstruction is difficult, there are a multitude of factors that need to go right for a great result and only one thing needs to go wrong for a complication to occur. Thankfully, most complications are minor and can be controlled if treated early, often just requiring a delay while the complication settles before proceeding with the further planned surgery stages.

However some complications despite early and aggressive treatment don’t settle. These more severe complications will require additional touch up surgeries at the end of the planned surgery. Very rarely with a severe complication the entire reconstruction may need to be revised.

This is why it is vitally important patients are well motivated, well informed and psychologically prepared for this type of surgery. This is even more important in revision surgery. The commitment to the surgical process that is required from the patient when on the more complex nose reconstruction surgeries is not to be underestimated.
